The South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the position of Assistant Librarian. The SAAO is the national facility for optical and infrared astronomy of the National Research Foundation dedicated to astronomical research and science outreach.
The successful candidate’s responsibilities are:
● Cataloguing
● Processing journals
● Processing new books
● Interlibrary loans
● Reference queries
● Other related library duties
Candidates should have the following qualifications and attributes:
● National Diploma or equivalent qualification in Library and
Information Science
● Minimum of 2 years work experience
● Computer proficiency required
● Inmagic experience an advantage
● Strong interpersonal, verbal and written skills
● Ability to work independently
● Accuracy and attention to detail are essential
