WCHELIG/ICTLIG invites you to a gaming seminar ...

LIASA Western Cape Higher Education Interest Group and Western Cape's ICTLIG invite you to a lunchtime seminar on Gaming.

We are very excited to have as our guest speaker, Bettie de Kock (University of Pretoria's Department of Library Services) who is one of the first South African academic librarians to use gaming as a way of teaching information literacy to first year students. The first 3D game was created in 2008 by the UP Libraries' Learning Centre and was inspired by a statement in Marc Prensky's "Don't bother me Mom - I'm learning" ( Paragon House Publishers, 2006) where he says that the Net Generation come from digitally rich worlds and that their motto is usually "Engage me or enrage me!" Hence the title of Bettie's presentation "Engage me or enrage me: gaming and information literacy training".

Bettie de Kock is the information specialist for Education Innovation.

When: Tuesday 25th May 2010

Where: Library Auditorium, University of the Western Cape
Time: Registration from 12.15 pm, with a finger lunch available from 12.30 pm.
Seminar to start at 1 pm.
Cost: R20 for LIASA members, R30 for non-LIASA members
