Follow a librarian: social networking and the library with Prof Louis Fourie
(Department of Information Systems, University of the Western Cape)
Prof. Louis Fourie will discuss how libraries can
leverage social networking tools to connect with their patrons and
deliver more of the library’s capacity to all patrons at their point of
need.
Prof. Fourie is the chair & head of the Department of Information Systems at the University of the Western Cape. He obtained his doctorate at the University of Stellenbosch in 1991, as well an MBA degree at the Potchefstroom University in 1999. In addition to the above-mentioned two, he holds four other academic qualifications.
He is involved in various research projects regarding knowledge management, e-government, e-business, e-learning and bridging the digital divide. In 2004, he received the USB Sanlam Award for research and was appointed as the CSSA Western Cape ICT person of the year at the end of 2009.
His consultation work spans various industries and disciplines, and focuses on the strategic usage of information technology, information systems, knowledge management, e-business, e-commerce, and the Internet.
