The LIASA Western Cape would like to remind branch members to nominate suitable candidates for the LIASA/SABINET LIBRARIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD for 2007.
Only four weeks to go for the due date on 15 June 2007.
This prestigious award shall be used for any educational purpose
(either visits to relevant institutions locally or internationally;
attending relevant conferences or studies).
The Librarian of the Year will be a role model to the rest of the LIS
community and a person whose contributions make a lasting impact on the sector.

The deadline for Branch nominations is 15 June 2007.
Nominations must be received by this date to be considered. The Branch winners (finalists) will be announced on the 29th June 2007. These winners will then be adjudicated at national level during July.
Three finalists and the winner of the Liasa/Sabinet Librarian of the
Year Award will be announced on 17th August at the Liasa Gala Dinner in Durban at the Elangeni Hotel.
Prizes to be awarded: 1st R25 000; 2nd R3 000; 3rd R2 000. All
finalists will receive a certificate of acknowledgment.
Selection criteria
All nominations submitted will be treated with the strictest
confidence. All nominees will be evaluated on the following criteria:
The nominee should:
Be a paid-up Liasa member for two years.
Must currently be working/engaged in the LIS sector.
Be knowledgeable about the LIS sector and its resources.
Be involved in a LIS project to improve the LIS sector in South
Africa.
Demonstrate excellence in marketing, promoting and advocating for LIS.
A good communicator in order to be a spokesperson for the LIS sector.
Must have a recognized LIS qualification.
The nomination form must include:
A motivation statement, maximum 200 words signed by the nominator.
The motivation must be accompanied by a profile of the nominee which
outlines the nominee's viewpoints on the following:
Liasa's role in the LIS sector and the future role that the nominee
believes Liasa should play.
As the prestigious award winner, what would the projects/issues be
that you would like to see addressed in the LIS sector.
Important things to note:
Upon submission of travel/conference/training arrangements to the
Liasa National Office and Sabinet by the successful individuals, the money
will be deposited into their accounts.
The award is not redeemable for cash.
The decision of the adjudication panel is final.
Eligibility for nomination: All members are eligible for nomination.
Those who nominate or are nominated may not serve as part of the
adjudication panel; members of the Liasa Exco and Representative
Council would therefore not be eligible for nomination.
On return/completion of trip/conference/training, the winner will:
Submit a formal report to Sabinet and Liasa National Office.
Write an article for the Liasa-in-Touch within a year of receiving the
award.
Do a feedback presentation at the following year's Liasa National
Conference/AGM.
