The Internet for teacher-librarians

The University of the Western Cape's Department of Library & information Science will be offering a short course, The Internet for teacher-Librarians, from Tuesday 25 March until Saturday, 29 March 2008.

Teachers and school librarians are the ideal participants for this course. No previous knowledge of the Internet is necessary, but basic computer literacy is required. This is an accredited course in the Advanced certificate in Education (ACE): School Librarianship.

Content of the course:
* A brief history of the Internet
* The digital divide
* An overview of the World Wide Web
* Tools for searching the Web
* The invisible Web
* Web search strategies
* Checklists for evaluating web sites
* Plagiarism and the Web
* Information overload

The cost of the course is R1200. Costs include teas and course material but exclude lunches. Various cafeterias on campus offer light meals at reasonable prices.

Please apply early as we accept limited numbers. The closing date for registration and payment is Monday, 17 March 2008.
