Call for LIASA Conference 2008 Local Arranging Committee

In 2008, the Western Cape Branch will be hosting the 10th Annual LIASA Conference with the theme: Looking Ahead: the changing role of LIS.

The Conference will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre during the week of 6 to 10 October 2008.

In order to host a successful conference, we, of course, have to start now, and we will need many willing hands.

I would like to invite you to serve on the Local Arranging Committee, which we hope to constitute before the end of October 2007.

Apart from you willingness and availability to serve on this committee, please consider the following:

The Local Arranging Committee meetings will be taking place after-hours, in the evening and weekends. We expect that meetings will become more frequent as we get closer to the conference dates.
Committee members have to have good ICT infrastructure. Previous experience with organising a conference, or committee work will be add to the effectiveness of this committee. Committee members will work in the following areas:
Social Activities
Marketing and public relations
Invited speakers
Venue and catering
Preconference workshops
Library Tours

If you are interested, please contact the Western Cape Branch Chair at
telephone number 021 460 3879 or e-mail at by Thursday, 25 October 2007.
