Minimum Requirements: • Diploma / Degree in IT / Electronic Engineering • 1 year experience relating to PC hardware and software maintenance • Knowledge of and experience in supporting various application software and e-mail packages, as well as web and browser based applications • Knowledge of network topologies.
The incumbent works as part of a team that supports the library in providing a range of IT services. The prospective employee must have worked in an IT support environment and will thus have a good understanding of IT support needs and a strong customer service orientation. This individual should be able to work independently, accurately and systematically under pressure and should have good communication skills. Persistence in problem solving and ability to multi-task are required attributes.
Additional Recommendations: • Work experience in a library and information services environment would be an advantage.
Summary of Duties: • The incumbent supports the library by maintaining all computers including hardware and software, and providing user technical support.

Training Librarian - Ref 645

Applications are invited to for the post of Training Librarian at the Durban University of Technology Library. This is a position which is at the forefront of the Library’s move to integrate information literacy into academic programmes and requires an individual who is intellectually curious and who has a passion for learning and discovery. The suitable candidate will be self-motivated and can deal with challenges and setbacks in a positive and proactive manner.

Minimum Requirements: • Bachelor’s Degree plus post graduate library diploma or a recognised four year library qualification, eg. BBibl, B Tech Information Studies • Three years professional library experience in a computerised library with at least one year of teaching experience • Proven experience in teaching or training of groups and one-to-one • Proven experience in programme development • Knowledge of pedagogic and didactic principles • Working knowledge of internet and web services, federated search engines, Open Access Scholarly Communication • Good verbal and written communication skills • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
Additional Requirements: • Teaching or training qualification, research skills, public service orientation, word processing skills • Thorough understanding of SAQA, NQF, the HEQF and new developments in teaching and learning • Masters’ qualification in an appropriate discipline.
Summary of Duties: • Provides leadership in the development, planning, coordinating and implementation of a range of Information Literacy programmes aligned to the different needs of the DUT staff and students • Researches, designs, develops, markets, delivers and assesses Information Literacy courses • Drives the implementation and integration of Information Literacy initiatives and liaises with Centre for Higher Education Development and academic departments • Monitors and assesses quality of training programmes and delivery and makes recommendations for improvement • Identifies and assesses information related training needs of Information Services staff, student librarians and other staff who assist with Information Services • Develops customised instructional materials, including technology-based interactive tools for teaching and assessment.

Minimum requirements: • Matric with 6 months relevant previous work experience • Customer service orientation: Alpha numeric filing ability • Ability to work without supervision • Physical stamina and mobility.

Summary of duties: • Responsible for the filing and maintaining of library material on the shelves in strict Dewey Decimal order for easy access.
